An individual or group is under investigation for allegedly defrauding at least two organizations out of $5.6 million. This was achieved through the sale of bogus FTX liquidation claims, as reported by Inca Digital, a data analysis firm.
The perpetrator is believed to have used advanced technology, including face-swapping software, to disguise their identity during virtual meetings, creating an illusion of authenticity. Despite the claims appearing legitimate, they were not genuinely linked to the seller.
Inca Digital, tasked with tracking this sophisticated scam, reported that the suspect also manipulated other credentials. The scam represents a cautionary tale in the age of artificial intelligence and digital transactions.
